batteries-executive elite E2. surefire torch?
not the 123A batts. takes 2 batteries and they are skinny er than AA batts.. had this in iraq 2003-2004 and just dug it out of my IRAQ trunk so i need batteries. tried everywhere including surefire. it was sent to me for free from someone in the usa who thought i would need it and YES i did. 4 1/2 long
maybe inch wide at widest....maybe i got a one of a kind for the war????

You say that the batteries were skinnier than AA but then contradict that by stating that they were maybe up to an inch wide.
Maybe if you repost your question again with a photo of an expired battery next to a ruler, or a photo of the torch next to a ruler, then maybe someone here can help. Ideally state what the battery voltage should be as well
From the description though it certainly won’t be a Surefire 18650 3.7v rechargeable battery as that’s both wider and longer than AA.
One other very obvious possibility: you made no mention of AAA size batteries. See photo below for a size comparison.
