this wall along the border was just a publicity stunt? all he had to do was enforce the federal laws that punishes employers for hiring them. but he did not do that. nor did he do really anything else did he? just gave these employers even bigger tax cuts and run up the deficit faster than any other president in history?

A lot of people listen to the words politicians say but never bother to follow up on whether they're really doing anything. But in this case the media turned what was basically just a continuation of previous immigration policies into some kind of attempted genocide. So if you were already predisposed to want border security you looked at that reportage and thought "okay, I guess that's something". In truth Trump did little to nothing different on illegal immigration than the administration before him did (and in fact expanded several work visa programs to bring in more legal foreign workers).

Trump was not about solving problems - never was. 

He's all about finding peoples wounds, rubbing salt in them, inserting a knife and then twisting it. If he'd built the wall, he wouldn't have that useful tool - the threat of "illegals."  Plus, his private prison buddies got paid millions and millions by our government to put babies in cages and separate families.
