They're pretty similar, but the major difference is the scale the test of time.
Mythology usually applies to beliefs held by whole civilizations, like the Egyptians or the ancient Greeks. Folklore is usually smaller, local stuff like the moth-man, el Chupacabra or the haunted house a few blocks away from your school.
But they're really so close to each other they're almost interchangeable.

I think mythology are stories which intertwine with religions while folklore is myths/legends passed down through cultures overtime without necessarily having a religious connection. I don't know I could be wrong lol
