HELP! what kind of plant is this?

i got it from lowe’s but i want to do research on it. I’m not sure if it’s a succulent or a type of cactus

It is a type of aloe.  It needs very bright light and to dry out between waterings.  If you are in an area that doesn't get much frost it can live outside.  In my area these things naturalize and over decades get HUGE.

There are many kinds of aloe.  If you want to figure out exactly what yours is, I suggest do a google search for "aloe plant" and hit the images button.  I can ID pretty much any plant doing this.

It's a succulent.  A variety of aloe.
