Working as a minor without a permit ?
17, working with power equipment no work permit from this company. Is this illegal? I’m in MA?

The company CAN'T issue a work permit. If you need one, it is issued by the government, often through the local public school.
Having a work permit DOES NOT change what work you can legally perform, only if you can legally work AT ALL.

Heavy equipment likely falls under hazardous jobs, which is not authorized at all for anyone under the age of 18; otherwise a work permit is required and hours would still be restricted.

Companies don't issue work permits. Counties/Cities issue work permits. So, yes, you don't need a work permit issued by your employer.
