Is the inauguration and departure ceremonies appropriate in regards to Sicknick’s and others deaths?

TBH I don't know why they're even staging a live event. Most of Biden's campaign was conducted via video and surely his inauguration could be as well. After JKF's assassination LBJ was sworn in in a small private ceremony, so it's not like there isn't precedent for extraordinary circumstances.

The Inauguration ceremonies were already going to be very minimal due to COVID.  Fewer people in attendance (less than 3,000) and a very minimal parade in D.C.  And there is something to be said about not backing down to terrorists.  Two weeks have passed since the invasion of the capitol, and we have gotten back to "normal" quicker after some other tragedies like 9/11 and Pearl Harbor.

As far as Trump's departure ceremonies, nobody knows what he has planned.  Traditionally, the departure is rather subdued departing from the Capitol on a marine helicopter after the inauguration but before the parade. However, it sounds like Trump wants it to be like the Emperor going into exile and he is refusing to attend the inauguration.

I'm not sure.  It might be better to skip the ceremonies and have Biden and Harris take their oaths privately, in order to avoid more deaths.

The governing people have placed enough limitations on OUR activities, supposedly for our own good.  Maybe they could, just this once, limit THEIR OWN activities for our good.
