Why does my dog REALLY want to lick just my lips?

Dogs can not verbally tell you they love you.    They can not hold hands.   The only way they can show they love you is either by cramming their body right up right next to you or by licking you.   I am willing to bet as the dog is licking you the tail is going like crazy.

Does your dog lick your lips before or after he/she smells the butts of other dogs?  Perhaps your lips smell and taste like dog butt.

Puppies learn to lick at a mother dog's face - when hungry  a a signal. This is especially likely if she provides -solid food being brought TO them.  They lick to get her to regurgitate the prey, she caught.

Dogs may lick you for any number of reasons - to show their hunger, or as a reaction to the scent of what you ate, a greeting, or it the sense of something "odd" about you and are concerned - say an oncoming epileptic seizure, or low blood sugar, etc.
