The scene in Sophie's Choice in which the Nazi makes Sophie choose in front of her two young children which of them to save on the condition that if she doesn't choose, he'll kill both. She can't choose, so he says he's going to kill both, so then she chooses out of desperation to try and save one, and the one she doesn't choose is horrified by the betrayal as the Nazi then shoots the one she chose to save in the head and rips the one she betrayed away from her and doesn't let them stay together...
