Wilmington, NC.  It's technically the South, but you get the luxury of not really being in the 'South' unless you go to the small towns in the surrounding areas.

NW Florida, also known as the panhandle.  No state income taxes, reasonable cost of living, but you occasionally have to suffer a hurricane.
