How fast does blood come out when someone's throat is slit?

I've seen it on Tv and in movies but I'm wondering what it's actually like. (for the purpose of a story). Does the blood just spurt out as there's an artery, or is it dry for a second and then blood starts pouring out?

Depends on how deep you cut. The more superficial jugular veins bleed steadily; the carotid arteries, just medial to them, spurt.
