Anyone who thinks the government provides things "free" is an idiot.

As others pointed out, it's not free. Some may say costs too much, but if you compare with UHC countries, US per capita is far, far higher AND worse service. US already has socialist police dept, fire dept, military, etc that we all pay into whether we use those services or not.

The NHS in the UK is paid for by a form of tax called national insurance payments that are deducted from your weekly or monthly pay packets. So the service is not free and you will be contributing to it for your working life.

Unfortunately whilst in Europe each time I went to the hospital it seemed to be treating eastern Europeans who could not speak English-language.

    Nothing is free of charge.

The US is rabidly capitalist. They have this superstition that only those able to afford health insurance should have it, as if poverty were a choice of the poor.

Also, there are no leftwing parties in US-national politics, and worker-unions are small.

Most of us Europeans are smart enough to understand that paying for people's access to a general practitioner is cheaper than having them wait until things get so bad they go to the ER

Politics became involved.  Ones side tries to implement it and the other shoots it down.

For one thing it will cost too much and it would still be consider  a tax that we would have to pay for.

They do have free care for those on Medicaid (welfare)

And not only that if we did have that everything we buy will cost even more..In order to do that they will ahve to raise the minimum wages even higher for ppl to even afford it.

Because we do not want to pay higher taxes and we do not want to pay for other people's healthcare.  There are lots of things that we do differently than other countries. Why do you think that the US should be the same as Europe???

Are you that dumb? People in western europe are forced to buy insurance, either from insurance companies or from the government.
