Most Republicans believe that a power elite controls their country, most Democrats insist it's not true, so which side is telling the truth?

A power elite has ALWAYS controlled the country, in fact the world. 

Presidential candidates are SELECTED and have to follow the agenda.   You get the illusion of choice.  Meanwhile the same agenda continues regardless whether you vote red or blue.    You notice that the democrats have never repealed the fascistic 'Patriot Act' ?

Those who possess the money ( J P Morgan, Rothschilds, Rockerfellas ) have always dictated events and even created wars to make money for themselves.    They set up the so called Federal Reserve (which is not remotely federal) in 1913 and is a private bank to bleed the U.S taxpayer.

The Rothschilds own $$ trillions.

In  modern times corrupted managers are major part of the ruling system, no matter if they belong to one party, or another. This called a DEEP STATE.

It's they, corrupted majors, governors, senators, and even judges who brought Trump down.

Both Democrats and Republicans and all Americans need to realize that we have an enemy that is dividing us.   There plan is "Divide and Conquer."  Our enemy took advantage of peaceful protesters supporting black lives.  Our enemy took advantage of peaceful protesters supporting election fraud. I didn't understand this until I saw Trump supporters being accused.  I ask all Americans to please stop protesting and do not give these violent groups a platform in which to destroy people.  I ask all Americans to calm down, at least for a period of time, and watch diligently for the TRUTH in these matters to surface so our law enforcement can find our enemies among us, because they need a platform to perform on.  We don't want to give them a platform, like peaceful protesting.   So, if we have a power elite trying to control our nation, they'll need some kind of platform.  Be quiet for awhile and be watchful.  Keep your ears open and question what is being said and by whom.

The Republican Party has always represented the moneyed classes but they are in for a major reckoning. Major donors are literally withdrawing funding. Jp Morgan-Chase, Morgan Stanly, AirBnB, Bank-America are just a few of the biggies that have stopped all further donations until the Republican leadership literally cleans up their act.
