my friend said he hits his cat after it bites him, is that abuse?

If by hit he means "swat," then no, that is a normal and effective disciplinary action. A swat is light, and does NOT HURT THE CAT in any way. If he's slapping, punching, kicking, or in any way actually harming his cat, that is absolutely abuse.

Sounds like human abuse to me. If he does that, the kitty will never like him.

Not necessarily. If he injures his cat then that would be abuse. If it is a disciplinary move that does not result in harm then that is not abuse.

Yes. Unequivocally yes. Hitting an animal is never right. The cat needs training, and abuse is not a form of training.
