If antihistamines cause dry eyes why is there antihistamine in my eye drop?

There is a difference between what oral antihistamine and eye drop antihistamine drops do. I am not aware of any antihistamine drops that are very effective. Mast cell stabilizers like Pataday or Zaditor tend to be more effective. Both are available over the counter in the US.

The idea of the antihistamine is to stop your eye from itching and to remove the redness. Unfortunately one of these antihistamines called tetrahedraline it's quite toxic to the human body.

Antihistamines help with redness and irritation
Irritation often causes watery eyes, so it's not a bad thing unless you have chronic dry eye
