What happens to people's spirit and soul when they die, according to the Bible?

When a man dies his Spirit goes out and returns to the god that gave it and in that very day that man's thoughts perish. The spirit is apparently unconscious bioelectrical energy.

Once it departs the body the soul which is the body combined with the spirit dies and there are no thoughts left
