It's different for everyone. It depends what is culturally acceptable in your country, by your parents, by your religion. How long you've dated. How old you are. You could be 13 and talk about marriage, but it doesn't mean you're ready. You're ready when you're ready and you'd know what you both would want to do (and it would be the same thing) if one of you is female and the other is male and there was an accident with the birth control. If you are 18 you may be old enough to talk about marriage but still be a looooonnng way off from being ready for marriage.  If one of you wants to wait until marriage and the other one doesn't, it's probably not a good fit.
