7 % means7 / 100

Next multiply to 80

Hence 7 x 80 / 100 =

Cancel down by '10'

7 x 8 / 10

Cancel down by '2'

7 x 4 / 5

Multiply

Convert the problem to an equation using the percentage formula: P% * X = Y.

P is 10%, X is 150, so the equation is 10% * 150 = Y.

Convert 10% to a decimal by removing the percent sign and dividing by 100: 10/100 = 0.10.

7% is 7/100 so the calculation would be 0.07 x 80 = 5.6

You can figure this out in seconds without math just by using logic.

1) You know it's a multiplication problem because of the word "OF"

7% OF 80

2) You already know that 10% of 80 is 8

3) So the answer has to be "a little less than 8" because 7% is a little less than 10%

4) So you don't even have to calculate where the decimal point goes.

It goes wherever it will give an answer of "a little less than 8"

5) 7×8 = 56 ← This has to be a multiplication problem

6) Now locate the decimal point to make the answer "a little less than 8"

7% of 80 is 5.6

-------------------------------

Note:

The answer cannot be 56 ← too large -- way more than 8

The answer cannot be 0.56 ← too small -- way less than 8

The answer must be 5.6 ← just right -- "a little less than 8"
