I'm not going to name them but looking at your list I can comment on the best songs from the artists you name.  The Beatles best song is, by far, not Twist and Shout.  Gun to my head I would say Day in the Life or Let it Be.  The Rolling Stones best song is Gimme Shelter.  Led Zeppelin it's Stairway to Heaven.  Aerosmith it's Dream On.  Lynyrd Skynrd it's Free Bird.  I'll give you your picks for Dire Straits, Nirvana (that's an easy one) and Green Day.

Ah here. You can't honestly expect me to  make a definitive list? Can't even make a top 10 subgenres without going back and forth. But I suppose I'll give it a go.
