How do I fix blank images on planes in Blender?

When I import my image as a plane I get the plane, but the image isn't on it. It's just solid gray. Where do I go for trouble shooting?

I don't use Blender but this is common to 3D. You can import images as reference images and they sit in the background of whichever coordinate plane it sits on. When you apply an image to a 3D OBJECT, that is a texture map and must be treated accordingly. As the other answer said but some more background.

try creating a texture on a plane rather than importing the images directly
