How do illegal immigrants get into America,find rental housing and work without SSN and other official papers?

Many commit identity theft & identity fraud, steal others' SSNs, credit, identification. Until they get all that (& I have seen people with 5 or 6 sets of stolen/fraudulent ID!), they work day labor, commit crimes, and do anything to get money.

Illegal Mexicans rent houses from legal Mexicans who don't ask questions

They work under the table so no SS needed

They steal someone's SS and use that

Most just walk in, although overstayers who aren't technically "illegal" but rather "out of status" more often fly. They settle in states that make it easy for them to work, rent, in some cases get public housing and other benefits. While illegal migrants can apply for an ITIN number through the IRS (another tactic governmental acceptance of their presence) they more often work in jobs that either don't wish to know or are willing to accept obviously fraudulent documents. Many many Americans each year have to contend with identity theft because of this and it can affect someone's tax liabilities, eligibility for student loans, credit rating, etc.

They pay.  Guides get them across the border coaching them on what to say if they are caught.  They move to an area where there are already others from their country/ethnic group/family.  Fixers find them housing and work.  Then they are trapped in miserable, sometimes dangerous, conditions as day labourers.  Often they have dependents in their own country so the pittance they earn goes home.  Bad for the country they came from, bad for those whose earnings are depressed by the low wages these people get and bad for them.
