Jeez. Where do we begin? So many bad laws to choose from!
The most obvious to me is any “minimum mandatory” sentencing law. No two crimes, criminals or victims are alike. Minimum mandatory sentences remove judicial discretion. We elect or appoint judges specifically because of their discretionary ability.
In my view, minimum mandatory sentence laws are the legislative branch’s unnecessary intrusion into the rightful powers of the judiciary.
