How should he have defended himself?

Question

So that cop in Georgia shot the guy who stole his taser.

He is being charged with 2nd degree murder.

So if the cop shouldn't have shot him.  How should he have defended himself?  He had to use atleast some weapon (defending against a weapon without a weapon).  Should he have used his batton or maybe pepper spray?

Tasers are dangerous weapons in my State, and the shooting was justified.

The cop's actions were appropriate. The charges were filed just to appease the public.  The Attorney General used to call the TASER a "deadly weapon". Since this incident, he has flipped his stance.

The cop did the right thing.  The problem is that a small portion of our society believes that criminals have more rights than everybody else and those people are doing everything they can to force their beliefs on our society.
