Is this why English is one of the hardest languages to learn?

They say English is one of the hardest languages to learn.  I think the main reason is that the spelling is different from the pronunciation.

    Spelling is one of the reasons.

    Having too many words is another

    and the huge amount of homonyms, homographs and homophones

    That's one of the reasons.  Another is that there aren't enough rules, meaning you can't learn to speak English fluently without spending time with educated native English-speakers.  The problem is that English is kind of a 'pieces parts' language, cobbled together from others.
