Either one would be correct, but for different reasons.
When she came home, she took notice of her cat's bleeding toe.
** This would mean she literally noticed that her cat's toe was bleeding. She just that minute saw the cat's foot was injured.
When she came home, she took note of her cat's bleeding toe.
** this would mean that she noted, in her head or on a piece of paper, that the cat's food was injured. It would work more in line with her already knowing the cat's toe was cut, and she was keeping an eye on it.

Both are. The choice is up to the speaker or writer.
