How could Sam Cooke, who wrote lyrics about "keep moving on" and gospel songs, attack someone and get killed by defense ?

Im kind of young and recently discovered his wonderful music, like its REALLY amazing music and lyrics, so much of it resonates from me. But i read about how he died chasing a stripper and threatening a hotel clerk to the point of her shooting him, it just seems so crazy that his flaws were that bad to get him shot so soon. Its just hard to grasp as Cooke's songs make him look like one of the most wonderful people that existed
