240 -4 prong plug to 3 prong?

i am sure it is the ground n neural wires tied  the same place with the 2 hots on the others.........?

Correct. Tie the neutral and ground together. But the best thing is to change the plug to a 4 prong.

FOUR wires with FOUR prongs is better.   You have a dedicated ground wire.    It would be better to change the three hole outlet to a four hole one and add a ground.
