How would you do to carry out the laboratory work?
In a beaker of water there is a mixture of copper nitrate, lead nitrate and silver nitrate. The salts have dissolved and become ions. (nirations)
My task is to produce a small pile of pure silver, one of pure lead and one of copper.
To help we have different metals: Fe, Sn, Pb, Au, Zn, Al, Ag and Cu.
Task: a) Write a method of how you would have done to carry out the laboratory work. Tell us what substances you would use and how you would do with them.
b) Write chemical reaction formulas for the reactions that occur.

Think single replacement reactions and the activity series of the metals. Put Cu metal in the solution. Ag will form on the surface of the copper. Separate it out then put Pb metal in the solution. Cu will form on the surface of the lead (Ag already gone). Separate it out then put Zn metal in the solution and the Pb will form on the surface of the Zn (the Cu and Ag have already gone)
