Why might the mirrors on toy cars snap on their own overtime? What causes this to happen?

Update:

over time I meant to write but it's too late now.

Toys are made of cheap plastic which dries out and gets brittle over time. After a short while it will break.

Likely they are drying (curing) and thus shrinking which causes internal stress and cracks. It can also cause them to become more brittle.
