Do you have to study criminal justice to do intelligence?

Intelligence is a pretty broad category. There's signals intelligence, communications intelligence, and photographic intelligence, we have people who do intelligence collection both overt and covert, and people who do intelligence analysis. There's more to it than that, but people tend to have specialised jobs in that field. Not sure how criminal justice would help in all of them.

No. You don't have to have a degree at all, but the ability to read & write clearly, the ability to piece together & maintain a 'cover', mastery of a couple of languages, and either a broad understanding of many things and/or an in-depth expertise in one thing, area, or people.
Of course, to possess the morality & conscience of a high functioning sociopath would help as well.
Let me ask you what exactly you mean by "intelligence"?
