How do I keep a pair of sneakers from falling apart?

I bought some that I want to store for about 5 years and sell them later.

Keep them in the house, in a box in the closet, NOT in a hot garage, not subjected to hot or cold or varying temperatures.

I have shoes that I bought 30 years ago, sitting in my closet (I may wear them periodically - wedding and funerals) and they are in fine condition (a bit dusty, but wipe off the dust and they are fine).  For 5 years, I'd just leave them in the box in a dry place and they should be fine.

Keep them in a box and maybe wrap that in a trash bag so the box cant get dusty. Never wear them.
