How do I convince my friend that the Boeing 757 is much safer than the A320...?

You can't, because it isn't.

The airbus A320 has a 0.10 crash per million departures, while the 757 has a 0.20 crash rate.

The numbers are vanishingly small, but 0.20 is still twice 0.10.

When our company got Airbus aircraft the company schooled us on the new planes. One of their instructors, a particular obnoxious individual from the UK, Spent a lot of classroom time ridiculing our system of government regulation of private industry. He said it was wasteful and slowed the aircraft certification unnecessarily. He insisted that since their government was part owner of Airbus, they never had any problem getting any part of the aircraft certified. I've avoided riding on Airbus equipment ever since.

 Why do you want to convince them of a lie? The facts are as follows. Fatal crashes per one million departures (PMD), the Airbus A320 series (0.10), the Boeing 757 (0.20). So the Airbus is far safer than the Boeing.
