I don't know about summer camps in Texas, but that's certainly true of private Christian schools in my area. They have horrible bullying problems which the administration refuses to address because that would mean that Christian students aren't perfect. I know of several students who had to leave because they were being tormented on a daily basis.

Just watch the movie Jesus Camp.  You'll see what kind of mental terrorism that christians force on their children.

I did see the movie, "Jesus Camp". The examples in that one seemed designed to traumatize even when things go right. But I've no way to know how typical they were.
