For most rifles, and many handguns, yes, although Canadians cannot carry them for protection as Americans can. Some weapons legal in the USA are prohibited in Canada though. Canada also has laws on magazine size, and thing like that.
The biggest difference is that firearms laws in Canada are national, whereas in the USA, each state has it's own sets of laws for firearms.

Yup, we can have very similar guns. It's just a matter of filling out paperwork. The big differences are maximum clip capacity (5 rounds for most rifles, 10 rounds for handguns), the restricted / prohibited model list, how they can / can't be carried, and of course the general attitude towards ownership.
You can buy a typical 30-round "banana" rifle clip in Canada, but it has to be pinned to hold no more than 5 rounds. If you've got a magazine that holds more than the maximum, it's jail time for you.
Then there's the guns themselves, a list that changes every time we elect a Conservative or Liberal government. As in the USA, the libs here are very afraid of civilians owning guns. The current Liberal government just recently updated the prohibited list, and some of it is downright laughable. Certain guns are legal, but certain models / accessory packages of the same gun are completely illegal. Why, you ask? Because those models or accessories look really scary. If it looks scary, it's an assault weapon. The prohibited list will be shortened the next time the Conservatives are elected. We're used to that here.
Automatic fire of any kind is completely prohibited. Outside of police and military, less than 0.5% of Canadians are allowed to carry loaded firearms in public. That includes private security employees like bank truck guards.
The biggest difference, however, is our general attitude towards guns. While most Canadians can legally own as many guns as they want, only about 10% actually do. Guns exist here, but they're not part of our daily life and we don't all feel the need to have them with us. I grew up in a house with guns, but I didn't buy any when I moved out on my own.
Interestingly, there is one statistical number that is exactly the same in Canada as it is in the United States. The number of violent criminals who obey gun laws is the same in both countries, because it's zero.

This has NOTHING to do with Travel.
Go ask in Law & Ethics.
Canada has gun control, unlike the failed sh*thole failed state to our immediate south.

No. There's a lot of guns and accessories that you can't legally own in Canada that are legal in the US.

Similar yes in many cases, the same no. There is no legal way, for example, for a Canadian to own an automatic weapon however they can own a variety of rifles and hand guns if they have the appropriate permit. In Canada there is no "carry permit" for a hand gun, you are allowed to own one and transport it to a recognized shooting range for use. You cannot carry it on you except when you are there or in your vehicle except when travelling between your private residence and the range. Rifles are less restricted but again openly carrying them or having them in your vehicle is restricted to certain activities and they generally must not be in the open....no gun racks in the back of pickups.

Yes, but the process of getting a licence to own any firearm is tougher. Handguns are even more restrictive.
In general, the gun culture that exists in the US does not exist to the same extent in Canada. We don't have the 'right to bear arms' written into the Canadian constitution nor a powerful NRA association here.

Lots of Canadians have hunting rifles but there are almost no handguns or military style rifles.
