Do "officially" and "canonically" mean the same thing?
Hi. Do "officially" and "canonically" mean the same thing? "Canonically" in the context I am using the term refers to fiction.
I know if something is canon it's an official part of some fictional universe.
Please help. Thank you.

Close, but not quite. Canons are church laws, so "canonical" means legal in a church sense. Something can be official without being canonical.

Sort of, but not exactly. What is and isn't "canon" in a fictional context is really complicated actually.
