Would the Monkees and the Talking Heads be considered American bands?

Davey Jones and the lead singer of Talking Heads were British but I consider them American.

Having one band member born in another country does not make an American band a British band.  David Byrne was born in Scotland, moved to Canada at age 2, and moved to Maryland at age 9.  The Monkees were a fake TV band formed for the show and other than some brief appeal to teenaged girls they had no lasting popularity.
