Was Kobe Bryant's crash a freak accident or was it avoidable. Scared to go on one for tourism reasons. ?

I want to be on a helicopter when covid ends for tours and take pictures. Having a helicopter exploding is scary. What type of helicopters are most safe for tourism reasons. What to look for in a pilot.

It was avoidable. The pilot should NOT have flown in that terrible weather.

If you want to go on a helicopter ride, choose to fly on a day with good weather.

The company was not licensed to fly in bad weather.   The weather was bad so it is all pilot error.

A senic helicopter tour in good weather is far safer than a pilot pressured to get a wealthy customer to his destination in bad weather.  Don't worry about it.

Avoidable. Don't fly low level craft when you can't see.

There are "old pilots" and "bold pilots" but there are no "old, bold pilots".  Chuck Yeager.

    Pick one with experience.

Fly in good weather with a reputable outfit.  The one Mr. Bryant was on didn't explode in the air.  The collision with the ground did the trick.  If you are booking a tourist helicopter, ask them about  their accident record.

    Sure, Kobe's crash was avoidable.

He could have driven the 1H 15M from Newport Beach to Calabasas like the rest of us mere mortals (that trip might have taken 3+ hours on a Friday afternoon, but he was going early morning on a Sunday).

Don't fly in a helicopter when the fog is so dense that sheriff/police and news helicopters are grounded.

Helicopters do not fly in fogs without instruments to do so, unless the boss is demanding that it be done.
