How much time is needed to prepare for UPSC?

It depends on person to person. You can study for 8-10 hours a day, but make it worth at the end of each day. Generally, an aspirant takes 11-12 months for the preparation of UPSC exam and there is no apt number of hours and days that will ensure the ticket to become an IAS. Preparation should be clearly based on syllabus and smart study is needed. There should be some time on hands to revise it thoroughly before sitting for the exam. One such platform is crackIAS which provides a personal mentor. Further, they have test series, Video Lectures covering all topics of GS Pre/ Mains & CSAT, Mentorship with Director on a weekly basis, Expert live video sessions on a weekly basis for CSAT and much more.
