The idea of flying in a home made plane is too scary to comprehend.

Look on Internet or a library for aeronautical design.
You can buy kits to build one, or buy plans for aircraft to build yourself if you buy the parts.

The Wright Brothers didn't need no stinkin' book.....

Go to eaa.org and browse their book store.
Try Aircraft Spruce, they have a book section also.

your IQ is too low to build an airplane. all you would be able to do is buy parts that someone else already made, and then assemble them.

"A" book? Seriously? Like ONE book?
A 4 year engineering curriculum at university barely scratches the surface; a single book can hardly cover it all.
