    It was probably used as a fruit dish displayed in a dining room either on the centre of the table or on the sideboard, It looks like 'bisque' porcelain.   

  • Fruit bowl. Classic shape. And it’s way too big to be a candy dish.

    The others are probably right that it is a candy dish, it is probably made of porcelain. Unlikely to be of any great age, probably late 20th century at the earliest.
