How many calories would the average human need in a day?

    Your question is too open ended. There are several factors that determines calories requirements such as age, gender, height, weight, lifestyle, and current state of health.

    Furthermore, what do you consider as an average human being? Because there is no such thing. If you say age, that does not help because not everyone of the same age is the same in sex, height, weight, lifestyle, and health.  If you say height, then not everyone of the same height is the same in age, sex, weight, lifestyle, and health.

    This is why we calculate Basal Metabolic Rate (the amount of calories your body burns in 1 day while keeping you alive) for each individual.  All you have to do is search of BMR calculator and you will find dozens of them online to use.

    It depends on size but somewhere in the 2000 range plus or minus a few.
