Why is Trump banning TikTok to stop China?

I thought protectionism violates the sanctity if free market capitalism.

Trump's TikTok ban is failing anyway.  Lucky thing, because it sets an awful precedent.  How many American tech companies would be carved up and reduced if some foreign leader could just say "national security" when his feelings go hurt?
