He had a lot of loyal bodyguards. Hitler was well liked by the Germans.   Hitler's fatal mistake was the order that he attacked the world.  He should have attacked Russia first, taken much of the Slavic world, such as Ukraine and pushed the Russians back to about Moscow.  Then spend the next years improving the countries and nation building. From that he could have expanded as needed, say into Arabia for the oil supplies.   But, he had other motivations.  Exactly what they were and why is not clear, but they seemed to have been the flaw in his decision making.

A mixture of nut cases that thought like him Plus extreme luck.  There where plenty of attempts including Operation Valkyrie which was extreme luck considering he was in the room when the bomb went off.

There were a few attempts, but you're right.  I really am surprised other folks higher up didn't see what misfortune awaited the country if they continued on this path and moved to take him out of the picture.

Obviously, all we see is film footage, but he doesn't look very persuasive. How the hell he was able to tap into the country and move it in such a horrible direction is astounding.
