RULES

1. An odd numbered multiplicity of a zero indicates where the graph crosses the x-axis.

2. An even numbered multiplicity of a zero indicates where the graph bounces off the x-axis.

f(x) = 2 (x+1)¹ (x+2)⁴

The zeros are   x =  -1, multiplicity 1 (which is odd)   and   x =  -2, multiplicity 4 (which is even).

So, the graph crosses the x-axis at  -1   and   bounces off the x-axis at  -2.
