Due to the company's crunches, our salary is reduced by 40% with a promise that they would compensate. What to do?

I’m the sole earner of the family. I require money for my kids right now.

Sounds like you need to look for another job. I wouldn’t quit this one until you have something else lined up, because even 60% of pay is better than no pay, but I’d be looking for a new job. As long as what you are being paid is above minimum wage it’s legal for your pay to be cut. And right now it’s not uncommon for companies to have cut wages because of corona.

Get out a calculator for a very complex math problem.

Determine if 60% is greater than zero.

You may need a team of mathematicians to help.

Happens to a lot of businesses now.

At this point, you can either accept it and cut expenses, or quit and hope that you'll find something better.

You can also stay, but keep your eyes open for something new
