In California prop 21 has many enemies why are the powers that be afraid of reasonable rent control hat makes fewer people homeless, ?

I've been born and raised in California never seen rent so outta control and people homeless not all junkies, or slackers, But good people working people, people with ADA, even three jobs not enough for $1,200 rent.

In the 90'sm 2000, even 2009-14 Rent was Market Rate took over Fair Market Rent

time to end the days of Renters funding others retirement while they work themselves to death and still end up homeless

Greed.  Nothing more to it than that.  Good cities/jurisdictions have rent control laws and have laws that protect the rights of tenants.

Rent control makes more people homeless.

There are fewer places to rent as buildings go condo or cooperative.

The ones that remain  people don't leave or it's next to impossible to get peopke to leave.

Landlords no longer have money to invest in properties, so they become run down and eventually condemned and torn down.

There's plenty information on what happened in NYC in the 70s and why it failed.

As a landlord in a state that already has state wide rent control: it is a tremendous pain in the ars!

The only good part of our law was the cap on increases of about 10%.  The rest of the crap they snuck in on the law just makes life worse for everyone.  Me & my tenants have to tolerate a couple assshole tenants that I now cannot evict because of the crap they added to the state wide rent control.  Before the crappy law I could have served them a no cause 30 day a long time ago. For reference they are all on a month to month.

It is not the powers that be, it's the property owners.

No such thing as "reasonable" when it comes to a government. Landlords will lose out as taxes, utilities, repairs, etc keep going up, and then most apartments will turn into slums. Capitalism is better than socialism. The working class can either double up, get more pay,  or move to a less expensive area to live.

ADA is a law, not a type of people.

Being disabled doesn't mean you can't work and earn a very viable income.  The nature of the disability may limit this.  .

Rent is always market rate or less or no one would rent the place.

Rent control IS NOT ADVANTAGEOUS to people who are low income.

It makes them STUCK in dumpy rentals with slumlords.

Prop 21 is such a bad deal that even Gavin Newsom DOES NOT WANT IT.

Every affordable housing association in the state DOES NOT WANT IT.

Disabled Veterans DO NOT WANT IT.

Senior Citizen organizations DO NOT WANT IT.

If you want affordable housing you need to vote NO ON 21!!!

Move out of California. Rent control will make rent cheap AND you will see slums arise and buildings dilapidate just like everywhere else that has rent control. Fastest way to destroy a city other than a bomb is rent control.
