Why do Peter and Stephen pursue the strategy of lecturing Jews about the “misread” and “misunderstanding” of their own history?

All happening after the Pentacost experience obviously. I'm truly just wondering, because I understand but find it odd.

The Jews opposed Christianity and believed that they were in the right, but Saint Peter and Saint Stephen were trying to show them that they were just like the Jews in the past who had opposed the other prophets and rebelled against God. In the Old Testament, the prophets and the people who actually listened and followed them were almost always in the minority, but in the end they were the ones who God deemed righteous, while the majority were condemned.

Christianity was an attack on the particular lethargic and corrupt Hebrew people who justified themselves historically more than individually based on their own individual virtues, but not an attack on the whole "Old Testament."
