You want to prepare an aqueous solution of ethylene glycol, HOCH2CH2OH, in which the mole fraction of solute is 0.120.?

What mass of ethylene glycol, in grams, should you combine with 955 g of water?

Mass = 449 g

What is the molality of the solution?

    (449 g HOCH2CH2OH) / (62.0678 g HOCH2CH2OH/mol) =

    7.234 mol HOCH2CH2OH

    (7.234 mol HOCH2CH2OH) / (0.120) = 60.283 mol total

    (60.283 mol total) - (7.234 mol HOCH2CH2OH) = 53.049 mol H2O

    (53.049 mol H2O) x (18.01532 g H2O/mol) = 955.6947 g = 0.9556947 kg H2O

    (7.234 mol HOCH2CH2OH) / (0.9556947 kg H2O) = 7.569 mol/kg = 7.57 m
