Are the new Hitman games a reboot or prequels or...?

I played Hitman 2016 and loved it so I decided to play all the other previous games too, but I noticed that Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 are completely unrelated to the old games. 47 himself looks different (younger and less buff), also despite what most of the fanbase say I loved Absolution and its story but the 2016 game completely ignores its events and even the fact that 47 had erased the barcode from the back of his head in Absolution since he still has it without even a scar in Hitman 2016 and 2 and now even in the third one. So is this new trilogy supposed to be a series' reboot or they are just prequels of the old games? Cause otherwise they wouldn't make much sense canonically.

HITMAN from 2016 is a reboot of the series.

I believe HITMAN III is going to be the last game in this series we are in now.
