The correct word is "them". Them is a personal pronoun. Family is singular, but there is more than one person in a family.

Many thought the family moved out of town, but several people saw them yesterday.

The family were believed to have moved out of the town, but several people claim they saw them yesterday.

(In British English you may treat 'family' in the plural)Thanks!

Family is singular, but when we're referring to an actual family (as opposed to referring to families in an abstract way) we usually use 'they'/'them'.
