Determine if each of the following tables is best represented by a sinusoids regression equation. Justify your answer.

Table 1:x= -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3

y= -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6

Table 2:

x= -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3

y= 9, 4, 1, 0, 1, 4, 9

Table 3:

x= -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3

y= 0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 8

Table 4:

x= -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3

y= 0, -4.5, -4.5, 0, 4.5, 4.5, 0

Look at y values x=0. In table 1 when x=0, y=0. Possible it is a sine curve. Y maximum is +/-6. This is the amplitude. The curve is of the form y=3 sin kx. See y= 3nsin kx=1=3 sin pi/2. Select x=4steps, 4 k=pi/2, k=pi/8. x value are 0,1,2,3 on positive side

Let us fit the values y= 3 sin pix/8. You need it in degrees. You can say y= 6 sin pi x/6 x

y1=0 x=0, x= 1, y1= 3 sin pi/8=1.14, y2=3 sin pi/4=2.12. This works well for table 1.

For table 2. It is the sine curve as shown above with amplitude 6.

For table 3, amplitude is 8 and for table 4. peak is in between 4.5 and 4.5. The range is 0 to 180. 5 Division. y= a sin kx/4, at x=1, y = 4.5 This will be 4.5= a sin 180/4= a==a*0.7, a= 4.5/0.7=0.64. The curve is y=0.64 sin(pi/4 x)
